Debates! For our class that is our favorite thing to do. Getting background information was more researching how to debate and watching examples of debates. Once we got our debate topics we researched both sides, the pro and the con. I was on the pro enhanced interrogation team. We had to really dig deep in quotes and statistics to creat a compelling argument. Then with our team we practiced and polished our arguments.
This project opened a whole new window of understanding of the Middle East in general. When we looked at terrisom, and understood it better, I felt like we could take more precautions against this. I could see why we have so many stereotype and generalizations abbot the Middle East. It is because of something we call oriontelism, we have this idea that they have magic powers and have huge swords, but that is just fantasy. Since we have all of these ideas we don't know what to expect, so the US policy is very complicated on what we should and shouldn't do. We may not agree with what the government does to keep us safe but we can all do so much with what we know.
The skill of talking comes natural to me, however I just talk. This project has helped me get my ideas in order, helped me get the most out of an article. It is hard to go up to someone and change their opinion but when you have the right facts and compelling evidence to support your opinion it is a lot easier.
